 Mitigwa's Future Forest Program

Mid-Iowa Council is pleased to announce Phase 4 of Mitigwa Scout Reservation’s Future Forest Program.

Mitigwa's forested ridges and trails have been providing memorable experiences for Scouts and Scouters for more than 90 years. While many of the trees shading camp today were already mature when the camp was new, old trees eventually become unsafe around buildings and campsites and need to be replaced. Newly developed areas of camp benefit from trees planted to add shade, increase beauty, provide wind protection, and improve wildlife habitat. The Future Forest Program is a long-term effort to meet those needs and insure that Mitigwa's forests remain safe, healthy, and beautiful.

The 2017 tree planting is scheduled for Saturday, May 20.  Using native species grown very close to Mitigwa, interested volunteers, Scouts, and members of the Order of the Arrow will be planting trees at designated sites around camp.

Individuals and units can help our forests by sponsoring one or more trees. Each tree costs $100, which covers the cost of the tree, mulching, deer protection, and ongoing care. Tree sponsors are invited to join us and help plant the future:
