Jamboree-on-the-Air, or JOTA, is the largest Scouting event in the world. It is held annually the third full weekend in October. JOTA uses amateur radio to link Scouts and hams around the world, around the nation, and in your own community.

DATE: Saturday, October 20
LOCATION: Maytag Scout Center
SET-UP/TEAR DOWN: set-up starting at 7AM, tear down at noon, leave building by 1PM
SCHEDULE: 9AM - Noon: activities open
AUDIENCE: Cub scouts
ACTIVITIES:
1. send and receive radio transmissions to other amateur radio operators throughout the U.S. and Canada
2. learn about Morse code
3. practice sending and receiving Morse code using a old-fashioned telegraph key and a practice message
4. follow the progress of the International Space Station on a worldwide map and see which amateur radio stations are receiving their signals
5. Learn about the BSA STEM program for Cub Scouts (NOVA), interested Cub scouts can use this activity as start for their NOVA award if they wish
6. Learn about radio waves and how they move through space, make a model antenna
