Popcorn

The Great Iowa Popcorn Sale has supported Scouting since 1983. It has become a significant part of providing funding for local scouting unit activities and council operations. The purpose of the Great Iowa Popcorn Sale is to raise funds for Scouting throughout the Mid-Iowa Council. It provides Scouting units with a safe, coordinated unit money earning opportunity with no up front cost to the unit.

In 2011 the Great Iowa Popcorn Sale provided $1,000,000 in financial support for Scouting in Mid-Iowa Council. This included everything from paying for unit operations including program materials and gear, advancements, recognitions, refreshments, camp fees, scholarships, subscriptions to Boys Life and other worthwhile Scouting publications, uniforms, camping facilities, registration, training, professional support services and personnel.

Over 600 volunteers will coordinate and participate in this year’s popcorn sale in nearly 300 Scouting units directly benefiting over 12,000 Scouts. The impact of the popcorn sale reaches far beyond the local unit making it possible to provide Scouting programs through the council that involve over 16,000 youth in central and southern Iowa.

The Popcorn Sale is a great way to support the Ideal Year of Scouting and help our youth learn valuable life skills while earning great profits and prizes!

Popcorn sales information will be provided beginning in May 2012 at the Council Program Kick Off Meeting events.
