For the first time in years, Mid-Iowa Council will attempt to fill THREE full troops for the 2013 Jamboree.  The Jamboree will be held July 11 through July 26, 2013 at the new permanent home of Scout Jamborees, the Bechtel Summit Reserve, in “wild and wonderful” West Virginia.

Mid-Iowa Council hopes to send over 100 Scouts to this historic Scout Jamboree.  Having already filled two troops with a waiting list, the Council’s Jamboree Committee has decided to push for a third troop.  In addition to the Jamboree itself, Scouts will experience a major league baseball game and tour a major league ball park, spend a day at Cedar Point Amusement Park, tour the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, visit the 9/11 Memorial at Shanksville, PA., tour the Louisville Slugger factory and museum, have lunch aboard a Mississippi River Boat, visit the St. Louis Arch, explore Mark Twain’s cave, and more!

The cost for this once in a lifetime experience is $2,100.00. To begin the adventure an application letter must be completed and sent with a $100.00 deposit to the Clayman Scout Service Center.  Since spaces have already been reserved in the third troop, applications should be submitted as soon as possible.  The third troop cannot be guarenteed until 36 Scouts are committed – by March 31.  (Deposits will be returned if the troop is not formed)

APPLICATIONS FOR LEADERS FOR A THIRD JAMBOREE TROOP ARE BEING ACCEPTED

If we can fill another troop  for the 2013 National Scout Jamboree, we will need four more adult leaders. The application process has been reopened for adult leaders.  We will be selecting one Scoutmaster and three Assistant Scoutmasters.  For details about applying for these four positions, contact Sam Hawk at the Mid-Iowa Scout Shop sam.hawk@scouting.org.  Leaders must be current, active members of a Scout Troop, able to commit to all remaining meetings, AND committed to attend the entire National Jamboree July 11-July 26, 2013.
